Spring in Christchurch has its own kind of magic. The Botanic Gardens burst into colour, the air warms up, and everything feels bright and hopeful again. It is one of my favourite times of year to photograph families, so I was thrilled to meet up with Tim, Katie, and their two children, James and Jemimah, for a relaxed blossom session.

We started at the much-loved old blossom tree right in the heart of the gardens. It is a favourite spot for so many families and for good reason beneath those pink petals, the world feels soft and dreamy. James and Jemimah wasted no time jumping into play, twirling and racing each other. Those natural, joy-filled moments are always the images that really shine.

Keeping things fun is a big part of my approach to family photos. Kids are happiest when they can move and explore, so there was plenty of laughing, running, and those cheeky little looks we know so well. We wandered through the magnolia gardens next, where the colours were showing off perfectly, and stopped for a mix of cosy portraits and spontaneous silliness.

We finished the session with a little playtime at the playground and the natural wood climbing gym. James and Jemimah had a blast and I loved capturing those last bursts of energy before heading home.

These blossom sessions are some of my most popular each year and spaces always fill quickly. If you are dreaming of your own springtime portraits surrounded by beautiful colour, now is the perfect time!
